Haut-Fond
The word raises more earth than the gravedigger can

A vase discovered during excavations in an ancient village drew attention of archaeologists, acousticians and linguists because it contained sounds. When placed on a potter’s wheel, the vase sang fragments of syllables pronounced by the potter who made it more than five centuries ago.

For "Haut-fond", Céline Cartillier takes this scientific hoax literally, probably because she would like it to be true.

The piece is a solo recital for and from the soil. The dance exists on the scale of the hand, the hand that touches, feels, shapes and deforms clay. It is a choreography of psychic gestures accompanied by songs, in the ancient sense of the term: as poem, incantation, enchantment.

"Haut-Fond" plays on the border between visible and invisible, like shoals lying underwater, as if about to emerge.
