MARVELOUS

MARVELOUS is a fashion and culture magazine created by a team of three artists and published in the form of a public reading by its editor in chief, Bryan Campbell.

Using both their experiences as consumers of fashion publishing and their more or less amateur skills in the production of written and graphic material, the artists took on the role of commercial publishers. MARVELOUS was thus born through a “Do It Yourself” process that was both carefully analytic and supremely playful, a method of creation in resonance with the culture of drag kings and queens, in which imitation, appropriation, and plagiarism serve to access this commercial form of visual and textual language.

MARVELOUS is published as a performance, taking the form of a guided reading in the collective theatre space. Passing through several modes of performing text, vocal affects, and body states, the editor in chief questions how one can position oneself toward this material that produces as much frustration as it does desire, dealing in notions of expertise, economic access, and psychologies of persuasion and seduction.
