This piece, which I propose as a moving essay, is intended as a joyful punch, a moment where the intimacy of a performative offering can allow us to experience emotional gravity with levity, or to be pulled into the abyss by a joke. At its best, this piece could be a resource—a toolbox for reflecting, together, on difficult grief.
My previous creations have examined our images of power, creating tension between the editor-in-chief and his readership (MARVELOUS, 2015), the senator and his constituents (Janitor of Lunacy: A Filibuster, 2021), the lumberjack and the forest (Deep Cuts, 2023), or the captain and his deckhand (Submersion Games, 2025). For this next creation, I abandon the figures of the public sphere to enter what often unfolds in private: the power struggle between parent and child.
